Resources and Services for Students, Faculty and Staff, Alumni and Visitors : Interlibrary Loan

How long will it take to get my book or article?

That depends.  It could be as short a period as a couple days or up to two weeks or longer if the lending library needs to contact the publisher for permission to copy the article.

When will my book be due?

The loan period is set by the lending library, but you will be informed of the due date when you pick up your item.

Can I renew an interlibrary-loaned book?

That also depends on the lending library.  If the library has not specifically stated non-renewal of the item, we allow one renewal at the original loan period.

What if I am late returning the book?

Overdue fines and fees from the lending library will be assessed.  If none are listed by the lending library, our own fine system will be in force. See the policy here.

Interlibrary Loan

If you need a book or journal article we do not own, you can obtain it through interlibrary loan.  Please use the interlibrary request forms to the right for your campus designation and the type of item you'd like to borrow.

There is no charge for book requests.

A standard handling fee of $2.00 or a $7.00 fee for rush handling applies to photocopies of articles and sections of books.  If the lending library charges any fees, they will be passed on to the requester.

For other information regarding Interlibrary loan policies, including due dates, renewals, and fees for lost items, see the Library's Interlibrary Loan Policy here

Note to Precepting Students about ILL

Regarding article requests:

Note that transit time will increase, as your article will travel from the lending library to the David D. Palmer Health Sciences Library and then to your field doctor's office.

Preceptor students will receive an invoice from the Business Office for payment.

Regarding book loans:

Book loans will not be made to precepting students who cannot pick-up and return their books at the library's circulation desk.
