The purpose of this guide is to provide key resources for the subject of alternative and complementary medicine.  

Complementary & alternative medicine includes the practices of:

  • acupuncture
  • ayurveda
  • chiropractic
  • herbal medicine
  • homeopathy
  • hypnotherapy
  • massage therapy
  • naturopathy
  • nutritional supplements & vitamin therapy

While chiropractic is considered a part of CAM, resources in this guide will be focusing on other aspects of alternative medicine.

What is complementary and alternative medicine?

   The National Institutes of Health (NIH) define complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) as the collective term for 'medical products and practices that are not part of standard care. Standard care is what medical doctors, doctors of osteopathy, and allied health professionals, such as nurses and physical therapists, practice'.
